BLACKBUCK is the first offering from OS bikes – a 29” tire one-speed built from quality CroMoly steel to last for a lifetime of hard running. Mark Slate designed the BLACKBUCK drawing from years of experience working with hardtail geometry 29” bikes – a process that began in early 1999. Slate is a founder and part owner of Wilderness Trail Bikes (WTB). OS bikes is a separate and private venture. Like a good trail ride, OS bikes were conceived with spirit and no end in mind. The first run for the BLACKBUCK one-speed 29” is 100 complete bikes.
OS BLACKBUCK bikes will be available for delivery in late October 2007. Sell-through is intended to move quickly and re-orders are not set. Frames feature an eccentric BB, disc brake mount on the chainstay, and for those that want to fit multi-speeds, a pin on derailleur hanger is included. Frames are offered in one size only and black is the only color.
Equipment includes WTB Nano Raptor tires and Deva saddle. Wheels are built with WTB LaserDisc hubs, LaserDisc Trail rims and WTB spokes (32 3X). RockShox Reba forks, TruVativ cranks and Avid hydraulic brakes complete the running gear. Seatpost is 400mm which accommodates a 36” inseam. Wheelbase is 42½” with a 17¼” chainstay length. Bike weight is 25 pounds.

BLACKBUCK is a bike that has its roots at the genesis of mountain biking – a bike that can and will take you anywhere and everywhere you want to go more appropriately than other configurations. 29” tires roll faster due to longer contact patch (less friction) and get greater lateral traction. A bigger wheel rolls over obstacles more easily than smaller wheels due to approach angle, and the inertia contained in big wheels helps to smooth out small bumps at speed.
